The purpose of The Great Outdoors is to inform the community about the work of the Greeley parks and recreation department. I will provide information regarding activities, community involvement and other services that this department provides for Greeley residents. This is my first time covering a beat and therefore that is the only factor that scares me.
My journalism experience has proved to be a grind, but it is also very rewarding. Not only is writing a great skill to possess, but being a proficient writer makes communication much easier and is a lifelong skill that is needed in all types of careers.
This beat will help to inform the community about a department that plays a major role in the vitality of a city. Parks, community centers and recreation facilities promote a healthy lifestyle for all citizens.
My best quality as a journalist is personality and I will bring that into my writing. On the other hand, my biggest weakness is storytelling. I need to use more creative writing to describe settings and the emotions of my subjects.
Blogging is a great way to communicate with a select audience. My other blog, Bloggin' Ball with Brendan Hall allows me to relate to a baseball audience specifically interested in Northern Colorado baseball.
